ALA has released a pdf describing the consequences for libraries if these bills pass.

  • Increase libraries exposure to copyright liability
  • Chilling effect on online activity and free speech
  • Weakens cyber security and threatens privacy
  • Threatens the existence of user generated websites like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.

Today is a great day to communicate with your representatives about these bills as well as educate your unions. It is frankly embarrassing the amount of unions who are listed as supporters of this bill. Much of this is just carrying out the company line and being convinced with the so called SOPA / PIPA will save your job line.

As the ALA points out this bill destroys personal freedom and increases piracy. It will force common internet users into piracy in order to carry out basic search functions. It would make the simple act of linking to a site, that has been accused of copyright infringement by a corporation, a felony.
