A common practice for both student learning and assessment is utilizing technology for oral reading. Traditionally this may have been a tape recorder.
A very simple way to do this on a computer or Chromebook is Screencastify. Screencastify is an extension on Chrome that captures audio, webcam, and screen. For our purpose we are only interested in recording screen and audio.
A big advantage of Screencastify in a GAfE environment is its browser based and it automatically saves to your Google Drive account. In my set up I turned web cam off, used tab recording, and lowered resolution to 360 P.
This could be a simple way to get periodic reading samples of students at particular lexile levels.
